Cougars Exact Revenge

GLENDORA, CALIF. – After suffering a 6-3 loss to Point Loma Nazarene Feb. 24, Azusa Pacific had 27 days to think about revenge. The Cougars shut out 3 straight GSAC opponents before meeting the NAIA's No. 8-ranked Crusaders, and the preparation must have worked for the No. 10-ranked Cougars. Azusa Pacific won 5 of 6 singles matches in a 7-2 victory to move into a tie for the GSAC lead with 1 conference match remaining.

Leading the way for the Cougars were senior Kavan Hahn and junior Benny Lin, who each provided 2 points for Azusa Pacific with wins in singles and doubles. Hahn, who is now 17-0 in dual match singles play, defeated Jason Kasner at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Hahn teamed with freshman Simon Bieri at No. 2 doubles to defeat Point Loma's Rohdin/Kasner team, 8-1. Lin improved his dual match singles record to 14-0, defeated Rodrigo Suarez at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Lin and junior Aaron Coyle defeated Point Loma's Roberson/Dames combination at the No. 3 doubles spot, 8-4. Bieri, Vladi Molenda, and Nathan Goodman each won singles matches to help the Cougars to the impressive win.

With the victory, Azusa Pacific improves to 13-4 overall and 6-1 in the GSAC, while Point Loma Nazarene drops to 12-4 overall, 6-1 in the GSAC.
