Cougars Run Away With 32-Point Win

AZUSA, CALIF. – The NAIA's No. 4-ranked Azusa Pacific jumped out to an early 27-9 lead and never let up, and the Cougars never led by fewer than 17 points for the rest of the game in an 84-52 victory over Fresno Pacific Tuesday night.
 
Jeff Staniland scored 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field, and Justin Leslie was 5-for-6 from the field to post another 14 points to pace the Cougar offense. Gary Dredge scored 8 of his 11 points in the second half and shot 9-for-12 from the free-throw line, while John Bourne grabbed a game-high 9 rebounds.
 
Brett Michel dropped in a layup for the last 2 of his 9 points to give the Cougars their largest lead of the game at 84-50 with 50 seconds left in the game.
 
Leslie's 3-pointer with 6:08 to play in the opening half gave the Cougars a 27-9 lead, their largest lead of the opening frame until Staniland hit a pair of free throws with 15 seconds remaining in the half, giving the Cougars a 38-19 lead heading into the halftime break.
 
Azusa Pacific has now won 13 straight and improves to 27-2 overall, 14-1 in the GSAC.  Fresno Pacific falls to 8-19 overall, 4-11 in the GSAC.
