SANTA CLARITA, CALIF. -- Led by a trio of Cougars who each scored 2 goals, Azusa Pacific rang up another impressive win over The Master's, downing the the Mustangs 10-0. It is the third straight season Azusa Pacific has beat The Master's by a 10-0 count.
Freshman Lisa Roufs, All-American Kendra Payne and junior Chrissy Sanford led the Cougar onslaught, each scoring 2 goals. For Roufs, it was her first-ever multi-goal game.
The Cougars led 2-0 less than 6 minutes into the game after Payne and Roufs scored goals less than 40 seconds apart. Payne then hooked up with All-American Missy Myers for another pair of quick strikes less than 100 seconds apart, putting Azusa Pacific up 4-0 at the 27:50 mark. Sophomore Jennifer Sousa closed out the first-half scoring with her first goal of the season.
Sanford scored her 2 goals in the second half while Roufs added another. Junior Kimber Carter and freshman Cassie Lemburg finished off the scoring with single goals. The loss is the Mustangs' worst setback of the season.
With the win Azusa Pacific, which is ranked No. 2 in the NAIA, improves to 8-2-2 overall. The Master's falls to 2-7.
