AZUSA, CALIF. -- The NAIA's No. 7-ranked Azusa Pacific scored 29 consecutive points to start the match and then cruised on in for a 15-0, 15-1, 15-4 nonconference victory over Occidental. With the win the Cougars pushed the win streak to 7 straight, their longest since 1994.
All 12 Cougars played in the match that lasted 59 minutes. Freshman Jennsa Sagehorn led the way with a match-high 9 kills on just 16 attempts. Fellow freshman Roxanna Mercer came off the bench to tally 8 kills. Sophomore T.J. Gause and Christy Kimmel each registered 6 kills.
The Cougars needed just 11 minutes to take the first game. Sagehorn and Kimmel each registered 4 kills in the game and Mahea Burgess served 3 straight aces at one point. The Cougars led 14-0 in the second game before Occidental finally recorded its first point of the match.
With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 12-1 on the season while Occidental falls to 4-3.
