FULLERTON, CALIF. -- Taryn Kupper, Deena Miller and Danielle Turnquist each scored a goal Tuesday night to lead NCAA Division I Cal State Fullerton to a 3-1 victory over the NAIA's No. 4-ranked Azusa Pacific. The win evened the Titans' season record at 1-1 while the Cougars fell to 0-2-1.
Kupper scored the only goal of the first half with about 15 minutes remaining when she found the upper right hand corner of the net from about 20 yards straight out. Miler gave Fullerton a 2-0 lead with 35 minutes remaining in the game when she booted in a loose ball in front of the net after a corner kick by Monica Reade.
With 18:21 left to play, Titan freshman keeper Laura Janke stopped a penalty kick by Chrissy Sanford, who was making her first appearance as a Cougar this season, but Sanford scored 28 seconds later when she dribbled around 2 Titan defenders and fired a shot from angle left that caromed off Janke into the net.
Fullerton iced the win when Turnquist booted a rebound of her own corner kick from about 30 yards over the outstretched arms of Cougar keeper Regina Teplansky with less than 9 minutes to play.
