Payne Joins Elite Group In Win

AZUSA, CALIF. -- Junior Chrissy Sanford scored 2 goals and assisted on another to lead the NAIA's No. 4-ranked Azusa Pacific to a 4-1 GSAC victory over Concordia.

All-American Kendra Payne scored the game's first goal in the 15th minute on a tap in of a Missy Myers cross. The goal gave Payne her 200th career point, making her only the sixth player in NAIA history to reach that plateau.

Payne then assisted on Sanford's first goal with a corner kick to the far post that Sanford knocked in for a 2-0 Cougar lead in the 36th minute.

Sophomore Melissa Scott scored her first goal of the season, rifling a Sanford shot that rebounded off the cross bar. Sanford capped the Cougar scoring with a goal in which she received an excellent lob pass over the defense from Payne.

From there Cougar coach Jason Surrell cleared the bench for the final 15 minutes. Concordia tallied a goal in the 84th minute when Evelyn Miles took a long pass, dribbled 15 yards and let loose a shot that snuck by Melissa Strother near the right post.

With the win, Azusa Pacific pushes its unbeaten streak to 11 games and improves to 10-2-2 overall, 2-0 in the GSAC.Ê Concordia, which loses its sixth straight to the Cougars, falls to 8-3 overall, 1-2 in the GSAC.
