AZUSA, CALIF -- Goals in the eighth and ninth minutes got the Cougar offense started early and No.5-ranked Azusa Pacific (11-0, 2-0) remained perfect on the season in knocking off No.13-ranked Southern California College (7-2-2, 1-1), 2-1 in GSAC play Wednesday evening in Azusa.
Leading scorer Missy Myers opened the scoring for the Cougars when a cross from Janay Duran got past goalkeeper Jessica Lubman and Myers tucked the ball into the open net for a 1-0 lead. Celeste Mitchell made it 2-0 less than 60 seconds later when Myers sent the ball into the area. Lubman got a hand on it, but couldn't control and Mitchell pounced on the loose ball and doubled the lead.
Annie Jacobs cut the lead in half in the 35th minute, blocking a clearing ball from Cougar netminder Rachel Yanos and pushed the ball into the open net.
The Cougars hit the road on Saturday, October 10th for another key GSAC matchup with No.4-ranked Westmont College at 1 p.m.
