AZUSA, CALIF -- Sophomore midfielder Janay Duran scored a goal and added two assists to lead the NAIA's No. 2 Azusa Pacific (17-0, 6-0) to a 4-0 GSAC victory over Concordia in Azusa.
With the win, the Cougars clinch their first-ever GSAC Championship and the home field throughout the playoffs. Also, junior goalkeeper Rachel Yanos pitched her school-record 11th shutout of the season and her fifth straight.
Sophomore GSAC Player of the Week Melissa Myers contributed her GSAC-leading 20th goal of the season in the second half as the Cougars methodically pummeled away at a packed-in Eagle defense. With her goal and assist tonight, Myers now sits atop the GSAC leader board with 48 points to her credit.
Also scoring for the Cougars were freshman Kimber Carter in the 21st minute and junior Celeste Mitchell in the 51st minute.
Azusa Pacific closes out the regular season on Saturday when it travels to So. Cal College to take on the playoff-bound Vanguards. The Cougars will host a first-round GSAC playoff game next Wednesday (Nov. 4), most likely against Biola, at 7 p.m.
