10 Goals In GSAC-Record Effort

AZUSA, CALIF -- The NAIA's No.2-ranked Azusa Pacific did what was expected, disposing of an under-manned The Master's team, 10-0, in a nonconference game in Azusa Monday night.

It took nearly 26 minutes for the Cougars to get on the board, but when they did, the goals poured like rain, with Azusa Pacific tallying all 10 goals in a 64-minute span.

At 15-0, the victory keeps Azusa Pacific among an elite group of only 3 undefeated teams left in the NAIA. Additionally, the 15 conseuctive wins is a GSAC record, breaking the former standard of 14 straight set by the 1996 Westmont team.

Freshman Kimber Carter, who moved back into the starting line-up, made the most of her opportunity, scoring 2 goals and assisting on another pair. Sophomores Rachel Messick and Missy Myers, the top 2 scoring Cougars this season, added to their totals with 2 goals and an assist each. Myers now has 16 goals in just 15 games and paces the team with a GSAC-leading 38 points. Messick has 14 goals and 35 points on the campaign.

Lisa Lawrence, Jolie Robison and Jennifer Babel, who moved from her defender's spot to the frontline over the final 10 minutes, each scored 1 goal.

Junior GK Rachel Yanos collected her ninth shutout of the season and her third straight. Azusa Pacific has dominated nearly every opponent this season and has now out-scored the foe 72-7 on the season. The 72 goals is also a school single-season record, bettering the former mark of 67 set by last year's Cougars.

Azusa Pacific led 3-0 at the half, thanks to 3 goals in just 2 minutes of play. They pushed the lead to 6-0 before The Master's scored an own goal for Azusa Pacific. The Cougars then tallied 3 more goals in just 15 minutes to close out the final.
