Cougars Tune-Up For Postseason With Lopsided Win

AZUSA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific gave near flawless performance Wednesday evening in defeating The Master's College in a nonconference matchup, 14–0. The Cougar offense pounded out 19 hits, with Jeff Couvoisier and Ben Duncan leading the attack with three hits of peace, and three other cougars with two hits. The defensive performance was equally impressive with the pitching staff fielding only one hit and the rest of the defense failing to commit an error.

The Cougars got things going in there half for the first inning when Duncan and Mike Oliver scored on an RBI single by Shane Petrelli. They would go on to score in all but in all but 2 innings , including 4 runs each in the fifth and sixth. Dirk Lewallyn capped off the sixth when he hit his ninth home run of the season over the right field fence, a 2-run shot.

Lewallyn pitched 6 solid innings in the victory improving his record to 6–3 on the season. Relief pitchers David Doyle, Tom Manning, and David Perry faced the minimum number of batters in each inning of work, not yielding a hit and allowing only 1 walk.

The Cougars will use this victory as a tuneup for Friday afternoon's conference finale when they host Southern California College in a doubleheader beginning at noon. Both teams will be advancing to the NAIA Far West Sectional playoffs, to be held at Azusa Pacific, May 8–10.
