Cougars Score 12 Straight To Run Over Biola

AZUSA, Calif. -- Azuza Pacific, ranked No. 15 in the NAIA, scored 12 consecutive runs to overcome a 6-3 deficit and went on to beat Biola, 15-8, and a Golden State Athletic Conference game in Azusa, Tuesday afternoon.

Junior 3B Jeff Couvoisier and senior SS Jason Young combined for 7-for-9 hitting with 3 runs and 6 RBIs in keyed a 4-run third inning that gave the Cougars the lead for good at 7–6.

Couvoisier, who is 4-for-5 with a trio of RBIs, lined a single to left to score Hondo Godinez and tie the game at 6. Gabe Miranda then induced a bases-loaded walk to send Young home with the go-ahead run. The Cougars added 3 more runs in the fourth inning to take a comfortable 10-6 cushion. Young had another RBI single in that inning. He finished the day 3-for-4 with 2 runs and 3 RBIs.

David Doyle pitched 3.2 innings of shutout relief to pick up the win, his second and three decisions this year.

Biola's Rand Wagner was 1-for-3 with 4 RBIs on a pair of sacrifice flies and a 2-run home run in the ninth.

The win keeps Azusa Pacific within a game of GSAC leader Cal Baptist, and is the Cougars 26th victory in the past 28 meetings with Biola.

With the victory Azusa Pacific improves to 16–9 overall, 8–4 in the GSAC. Biola falls to 16–8 overall, 4–6 and the GSAC.
