Spahr Spurs Cougars Over Cal Lutheran

AZUSA Calif. -- Junior outfielder Jake Spahr pounded out a pair of doubles to read the NAIA's No. 15–ranked Azusa Pacific to an 8–1 nonconference victory over Cal Lutheran, Wednesday evening in Azusa.

Spar was 3-for-5 at the plate. He had a run-scoring double in the third inning to put the Cougars up 3–0 at the time, and then tallied a 2-run double in the fourth to push the lead to 6–0. Sophomore southpaw Fritz Maskrey, who came into the game with a 0-2 record and a whopping 29.08 earned run average, shut down the Kingsman over seven innings, scattering 4 hits while striking out a career-high 8.  Senior catcher Mike Boyle connected on his first collegiate home run in the fifth to put the Cougars up by a comfortable 7–0 margin.

The victory is Azusa Pacific's third straight on the season and snaps a three – game losing streak to the Kingsman. The Cougars are now 5-3 on the season, while Cal Lutheran falls to 3–2.
