APU Keeps GSAC Lead, Beats Biola

AZUSA, CALIF. -- Junior guard Chris Bethel scored 15 of his game-high 23 points in the second half and spurred in 8-2 Cougar run to lead Azusa pacific to a 78-66 Golden State Athletic Conference victory over Biola in the Cougardome, Saturday night.

The game featured 11 ties and 10 lead changes before the Cougars pulled away in the final seven minutes of play. With the score tied at 59 with 6:36 left in the game, the Cougars went on its 8-2 run in which Bussell hit a three-pointer with 5:39 to put Azusa Pacific up 64-59. The Cougars then made six-of-seven free throws in the final five minutes to keep Biola at bay.

Eric Wattree added 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for the Cougars.

The Eagles were led by Corey Reeder's 19 points.

The Cougars are now 14-1 at home this season.

Azusa Pacific, ranked No. 9 in the NAIA, improves to 22-6 overall and regains sole possession of first place in the GSAC at 9-3 after Westmont fell to Concordia tonight. Biola falls to 19-9 overall, 5-7 in the GSAC.
