FRESNO, CALIF. -- Jason Sanders scored 18 points to lead the NAIA"s No. 4-ranked Azusa Pacific to a 66-58 victory over Fresno Pacific, Tuesday night in the Special Events Center.
Azusa Pacific led 26-24, but fashioned an 18-4 to start the second half to break the game open. The Cougars led by as much as 18 points before FPU rallied to narrow the gap to 7 points with 38 seconds left in the game. However, it was too little, too late.
Tim Sebek added 14 points for the Cougars, and
Eric Wattree chipped in with 12.
Craig Griffin was the only Sunbird in double figures with 20 points. Don Moore, the Sunbirds' leading scorer (19.2 avg.), was hampered by a bad back and managed only 6 points in 23 minutes of action.
With the win, Azusa Pacific improves to 14-3 overall, 1-0 in the GSAC. Fresno Pacific falls to 10-5 overall, 0-1 in the GSAC.
