Cougars Get Declawed by Toros

CARSON, CALIF. -- Cal State Dominguez Hills realized it would be in for a fight when it hosted the NAIA's No. 9-ranked Azusa Pacific. The Torros were up for the physical match, downing Azusa Pacific 82-65.

The game marked the return of Toro Junior forward Chris Boyd, and he did not disappoint, leading CSDH with 18 points. Michael Whitaker also sparked the Toro's, pouring in 17 points of his own. Senior Center Richard McFoy led the squad with eight rebounds.

The Cougars were led by senior forward Eric watery with 20 points and seven rebounds. Ricky Blackmon added 15 of his own in APU's losing effort.

CSDH took a slim 36-34 lead into the halftime break, and then started to pull away from Azusa Pacific at the 11:53 mark of the second half when Boyd hit a jumper to give the Toros a 9-point lead at 57-48. Dominguez Hills then finished the game outscoring Azusa Pacific 25-17 to notch is fifth victory of the season in six games.
