Cougars Nail Another 20-Win Season

COSTA MESA, CALIF. -- Azusa Pacific used an 18-2 run with 10 minutes left in the game to overcome a one-point deficit and cruise in for an 87-71 win over Southern California college in GS AC play in Costa Mesa, Friday night.

Raymond Tutt, the GSAC's is leading scorer, led the Cougars with 23 points, including 17 in the second half. Tutt also collected a game-HIGH 10 rebounds. Senior guard Deric Daniels added 21 points and eight assists, and junior swingman Tim Sebek collected 19 points, including 13 in the first half when he led the Cougars to a 47-41 halftime lead.

SCC rallied in the opening minutes of the second half to catch the Cougars and take a 57-55 lead with 12 minutes remaining. After a Daniels three pointer put the Cougars back up at 58-57, SCC made another bucket to take its final lead of the game at 59-58 with just over 10 minutes to play.

Azusa Pacific has now won 5 straight and with the victory assures itself of its third straight 20-win season, a program first since the 1980-81-82 seasons. The Cougars also hold on to at least a share of the GSAC lead. Azusa Pacific, which is the two-time defending GSAC champ, sits on top of the conference at 9-1, and is 20-7 overall. The Cougars now await the outcome of tomorrow's Westmont-California Baptist game. Westmont is 8-1 in GSAC play heading into that game. SCC, which was led by John Naro's 19 points, falls to 12-15 overall, 2-8 in GSAC play.
