Larry Shelton scored 19 of his game-high 22 points in the second half to lead Azusa Pacific to an impressive 81-66 victory in NAIA Disitrict III Southern Division play in San Diego Tuesday night.
Behind Shelton's play, the Cougars took a 37-31 halftime lead and ran away from the Crusaders in the second half to snap the Crusader's 7-game winning streak over APC on their home court.. The victory was the Cougars' first on Point Loma's court since 1974 when they downed the Crusaders, 80-64. Senior
Gary Johnson added 15 points and 8 assists, while junior
Mike Moses had 9 points and game-high 9 assists. Shelton snagged a team-high 12 rebounds as well.
The Cougars shot 45% (31-for-71) from the floor, while Point Loma hit at a 40% (29-for-71) clip.
Point Loma was paced by Jim Freeman's 15 points, but Freeman fouled out to hurt the Crusaders' chances at a comeback.
