Kylle Shoemaker is entering his first season as the defensive coordinator for Azusa Pacific.
Shoemaker is in his second stint on the Cougar coaching staff, as he spent the 2011 season in Azusa coaching linebackers and serving as the video coordinator.
Most recently, Shoemaker spent four seasons at Division II powerhouse West Florida, where he helped lead the Argonauts to the 2019 NCAA Division II Football National Championship. At West Florida, he was the special teams coordinator and coached linebackers. In both the 2018 & 2019 seasons, Shoemaker led special teams units that finished top-five in the nation in net punting, and top-40 in kick return. The Argonauts led the entire country in net punting during the 2018 season. This past season, punter Dawson Hamlin was named Second-Team All-Gulf South Conference. While at West Florida, Shoemaker coached multiple standout student-athletes, including the conference record-holder for field goals made in a single-season.
Prior to West Florida, Shoemaker coached at Missouri S&T for three seasons. In his final season at S&T in 2015, Shoemaker served as the team’s defensive coordinator. His defense was tenth in the nation in tackles for loss per game, and 19th in sacks on the season.
During Shoemaker’s season with Azusa Pacific in 2011, the Cougars went 9-3 overall, and were ranked as a high as No. 5 nationally in the NAIA. Shoemaker’s linebacking corps helped the Cougars rank 20th nationally in rushing defense, and fifth in sacks.
Shoemaker got his start in coaching at Cal Poly, where he spent three seasons as a student assistant for the Mustangs.
Shoemaker obtained his is bachelor's degree in business from Cal Poly in 2010 and his master's degree in organizational leadership from Azusa Pacific in 2012.
Shoemaker is from Encinitas, Calif., where he attended Santa Fe Christian High School and was a three-year starter at linebacker and also lettered in volleyball. On the gridiron, he was named All-Coastal League twice, as he helped lead Santa Fe to the CIF championship in 2004, and a return to the championship game in 2005. In both seasons, Shoemaker recorded over 80 tackles.
Shoemaker and his wife, Melissa, have a daughter Keziah.
