                        THIS YEAR:  A sharp-shooting and athletic guard, sophomore Mia Pierce is hoping that a year of college experience to her credit will allow her to elevate her game into a key role off the bench ... Might be the Cougars' top shooter from the perimeter ... Hoping to round out her play in terms of her ball-handling skills and knowledge of the game.
2023-24:  In her first year at APU, appeared in 14 of the Cougars' 33 games ... As she adjusted to the college game, was given a more significant role and responded by scoring all 12 points in 3 successive appearances off the bench ... Tallied 3 points vs. Biola, 5 against Fresno Pacific, and another 4 vs. Chaminade, all on the strength of going 4-for-4 from beyond the arc in the 3 games combined ... Tallied all 3 assists of her season in a 10-minute showing vs. Chaminade.
HIGH SCHOOL:  Had the unique role of helping start an athletics program at Upper Columbia Academy in the small town of Spangle, Wash. (pop 300), about 20 miles south of Spokane ... Played all 4 seasons of varsity basketball, missing parts of her junior and senior year because of a torn ACL ... Averaged 15 points, 4 rebounds and 3.5 steals over the course of her 4-year career with the Lions ... As a 2020 freshman, averaged 17 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.5 steals and earned all-league first team recognition ... Here 2021 sophomore campaign was reduced to 4 games because of COVID but still scored 61 points and tallied 15 steals ... Was having a marvelous 2022 junior year, averaging 17.0 points and 4.6 steals before the season-ending injury kept her out of the final 6 games of the season ... Came back midway through her 2023 senior year and averaged 12.8 points ... Also played 2 seasons of volleyball at Upper Columbia ... Played club ball 4 years for Head Coach Ron Adams of the Spokane Stars.
PERSONAL:  Born Sept. 7, 2004, in Spokane, Wash., to Trenton and Laura Pierce ... Has an older brother (Evan) and a younger sister (Sadie) ... Her father played basketball at Walla Walla University, an NAIA school in Spokane, and played a key role in Upper Columbia's development of an athletic program ... Majoring in biology and would like to go into the medical field ...
