Priscilla Gomez

The 2024 season will be Gomez’ second at Azusa Pacific.

Gomez had a winning season in her first year as the Cougars’ head coach in 2023, with the Cougars finishing 14-13 overall. After a 1-5 start to the season, the Cougars started to find their rhythm under Gomez, winning 11 of their next 13 games, including two victories over Division I opponents. Over 27 games, the Cougars scored 325 goals for a program-record 12 goals per game average.

Gomez has spent the last six years as the head coach of the girl's water polo program at Montebello High School. Gomez led the Oilers to the CIF tournament in five of the six seasons she led the program.

Prior to her head coaching position at MHS, Gomez gained collegiate coaching experience at Cal Baptist, where she spent the 2011-12 year as an assistant coach. In her role at Cal Baptist, she assisted in skills and tactics, and oversaw the program's budget, travel, and recruiting.

Before Gomez joined the coaching ranks, she had a decorated playing career on the collegiate, professional, and international levels. She attended UCLA, where she was a two-time First Team All-American and helped lead the Bruins to consecutive national championships in 2008 and 2009. She finished her collegiate career with 165 goals. Academically, Gomez graduated with a bachelor's in history, and she minored in geography and environmental studies, while earning Academic All-American distinction.

Following her time in Westwood, Gomez started her professional career in Spain, where she played for Club 9802 Pamplona of the 1st Division Spanish National League, which is the highest level of professional water polo in the country.

Gomez also played on the international level throughout her playing career, as she saw action as a senior national team member for both the United States and Mexico. Gomez played for Mexico at the 2011 World University Games in China, as well as at the 2011 Pan American Games, which were held in Mexico. For the United States, she was a senior national team member in 2013 and 2014.

Early in her career, she helped lead the United States Youth National Team to Gold medals at the 2004 Pan Pacific Games (New Zealand) and the 2006 Jr. Pan American Games (Canada), and she played for the USA Junior National Team that won Gold at the Global Championships (California) in 2008.
