Biography

2025 (Freshman): Lujan made an immediate splash in his first collegiate season, appearing in 46 games and making 44 starts as a primary outfielder for the Cougars. He proved to be one of the PacWest's most dangerous freshman bats, finishing the season with a .284 batting average and showcasing elite power with 10 home runs. He drove in 42 RBIs, good for second-most on the team, and posted a .510 slugging percentage. Lujan was also a consistent on-base threat, drawing 15 walks and being hit by 11 pitches to finish with a .383 on-base percentage.

His season was highlighted by several high-impact performances:

  • March 1 vs. Vanguard: Helped lead the Cougars to a 7-0 victory by launching a three-run home run as part of a four-run fourth inning explosion.

  • April 5 vs. Menlo: Joined a historic "home run party" during a 19-5 rout, blasting a solo shot to help secure the doubleheader sweep.

  • Consistency in the Clutch: Recorded 44 hits on the year, including a double and a triple, and proved to be a defensive asset in the outfield with 20 putouts and a .958 fielding percentage.

  • Summer Success: Carried his momentum into the summer with the Academy Barons of the California Collegiate League, batting .287 with seven doubles and 24 RBIs in 29 games.

Prior to APU Lujan arrived at Azusa Pacific as a highly-touted recruit from Southern California prep power Cypress High School.

  • High School Accolades: A 2024 All-Empire League First Team selection. He helped lead the Centurions to a 41-18 record over two seasons and two Empire League titles, reaching the CIF-SS Division I "Sweet 16" both years.

  • Scouting Profile: Ranked as a top-100 outfielder in California by Perfect Game; known for a physical 6'0" frame and elite exit velocity, which translated into his 10-homer freshman campaign.

  • Versatility: Transitioned from playing both third base and centerfield in high school to becoming a cornerstone of the Cougar outfield.

  • Legacy: A second-generation Cougar standout. His father, Mike Lujan, was an All-Conference outfielder for APU (1988-89) who hit .324 with 12 home runs. His mother, Lisa Fernandez, is an Olympic legend and 3-time Gold Medalist for USA Softball.

Personal Born Dec. 19, 2005, in Long Beach, Calif., Antonio is the son of Mike Lujan and Lisa Fernandez. He has a younger brother, Cruz. He is majoring in Liberal Studies and chose APU over Point Loma for its family atmosphere and winning tradition.
