Benjamin Fuller serves as the Head Athletic Trainer overseeing the Azusa Pacific University Sports Medicine program while also specifically managing the care, rehabilitation and prevention of injuries for the Azusa Pacific acrobatics & tumbling team.
Fuller came to Azusa Pacific in 2008 when the Cougars' Athletic Department added swimming & diving, women’s water polo and acrobatics & tumbling, and thereby creating a need for a new staff position. In addition to coordinating the treatment and rehabilitation for these new sports, Fuller also assisted with the Cougar football team during his first year. Over the next three years his role changed multiple times to meet the changing demands within the APU Sports Medicine program. During this time he had primary responsibilities with a variety of teams including men’s soccer, spring football, tennis, baseball and track & field. In 2012 Fuller was promoted to associate athletic trainer, taking on the responsibilities of managing the cross country and basketball teams while also assuming more departmental supportive duties including inventory, purchasing and budget responsibilities, oversight of the sports medicine graduate intern program, athletics coordinator for the university bloodborne pathogen program, athletics liaison to a variety of university committees and various other administrative roles. In 2018 he filled in as Interim Head Athletic Trainer while the Director of Sports Medicine was on maternity leave, and in 2019 the Interim tag was removed. In addition to his responsibilities with the Athletics Department, Fuller has also taught classes as an adjunct professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Master’s in Athletic Training Program.
Prior to his tenure at Azusa Pacific, Fuller spent two years as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Syracuse University where he worked primarily with the Orange football program, but also spent time with the 2008 national champion lacrosse team, both basketball programs, track & field and cheerleading. Before Syracuse, he spent six months as an Intern athletic trainer for his alma mater Sonoma State University, covering baseball and tennis for the Seawolves' sports medicine staff.
Fuller has also served his country, offering nearly nine years of military service with the California Army National Guard from March of 1997 until his discharge in November of 2005. In that time, he spent 11 months supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Kosovo. For his performance and service, he was awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal as well as received the Army Achievement Medal twice.
Fuller graduated from Sonoma State in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology. He completed work on his master's degree in exercise science from Syracuse University in 2008.
Ben currently reside in San Dimas with his wife, Heather, and two sons, Caleb and David.
