THIS YEAR: Freshman Mechaela Hyacinth is an outstanding sprinter who will have an immediate impact on the Cougars’ fortunes this year … As a first-year competitor will press for All-American recognition with an ability to post marks that would put her among Azusa Pacific’s all-time Top 5 in the sprints.
INTERNATIONAL: Has competed in France, Columbia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Bahamas along with her home country of St. Lucia … As a 16 year-old, competed in the IAAF World Juniors, advancing to the semis of the 100 where she clocked an 11.87 … As an 18 year-old, recorded a windy 11.84 in the semifinals of the Carifta Game in the Bahamas, advancing to the finals where she ran a 12.04 … Also has a windy 24.50 in the 200 to her credit.
PERSONAL: Born Nov. 16, 1999, in Saint Lucia, to Michael and Filia Hyacinth … Has 4 sisters (Kimma, Kisha, Kennia, Fedonia) … Attended Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School from where she graduated in 2016 … Enjoys reading.
