Biography
THIS YEAR: Arguably the most decorated distance runner in the Azusa Pacific history, All-American and PacWest champion Eileen Stressling is hoping to cap her brilliant collegiate career with a few more honors and perhaps some records as well … Is an 8-time NCAA All-American and 3-time PacWest champion between track & field and cross country … Currently owns marks that rank among Azusa Pacific’s all-time Top Ten in mile (4:49.47/fifth), 3000 (9:29.54/second), 5000 (16:22.81/third), and 10,000 (34:25.31/second).
2018: Captured a trio of NCAA All-America honors, finishing fifth in the outdoor 10,000 (35.06.02), second in the indoor 5000 (16:26.46) and seventh in the indoor 3000 (9:31.58) … Was second in the PacWest 1500 (4:45.43) while helping guide the Cougars to their third straight conference championship.
2017: Sat out the outdoor season but picked up a pair of All-Amercia honors at the NCAA indoor championships by finishing fourth in the 5000 (16:38.06) and sixth in the 3000 (9:29.54).
2016: Redshirted the indoor season … Qualified for the NCAA outdoor 10,000, finishing 14th overall ... At the PacWest Championships, won the 5000 (17:25.89) and was third in the 1500 (4:36.88), tallying 16 points that paced the Cougars to the PacWest team crown.
2015: Qualified for the NCAA outdoors in the 10,000, finishing 18th overall.
CROSS COUNTRY: Is a 2-time NCAA All-American, finishing tenth in the 2018 championships with a 22:54.4 on a muddy 6K course in Pittsburgh, Pa. … As a 2016 junior was 21st at the NCAAs with a 21:09.6 in Florida … Was third at the 2018 NCAA West Regional (21:14.0) and fourth at the 2016 Regional (21:17.0) … Was a 4-time All-PacWest honoree, and a 2-time runner of the year, winning the conference champion meet as a 2015 sophomore with a 21:14.97 and 7 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor and again as a 2018 senior with a 21:14.8, 50 seconds ahead of the second-place runner … Redshirted the 2017 season.
HIGH SCHOOL: Ran 4 seasons of cross country and track & field for head coach Dave Sanford at Marina High in Huntington Beach, Calif. … Was a member of two top-ten finishing teams at the state meet, first as a sophomore when the Vikings finished third (Stressling was 64th at 19:16.0) and then again the following year when they came in ninth (Stressling was 54th with an 18:53).
PERSONAL: Born March 31, 1996, in Irvine, Calif., to Fred and Nancy Stressling … Has 1 brother (Evan) … Majoring in piano performance.
