THIS YEAR:  Sophomore transfer Marie Tanaka brings a full season of NCAA Division I experience to the Azusa Pacific women's tennis program ... Is capable of having a breakthrough campaign and should provide an extra level of depth to the Cougars' singles and doubles lineups.
              
HAWAII (Freshman):  Competed as a freshman primarily at No. 5 and No. 6 singles along with No. 3 doubles against the University of Hawaii's NCAA Division I competition ... Finished her freshman season with overall records of 3-24 in singles and 2-24 in doubles ... Defeated Azusa Pacific's Lindsey Cloninger, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 6 in the Rainbow Wahine's 5-1 victory over the Cougars.
              
HIGH SCHOOL:  Played 4 varsity seasons for head coach Brett Matsukawa at Kailua High ... Teamed up with twin sister Joelle to capture the 2004 and 2006 OIA girls' doubles championships, as well as the 2004 OIA girls' doubles title in soft tennis ... Served as the Surfriders' captain for a year ... Was named Kailua High's senior athlete of the year in 2006 ... Also lettered 2 seasons in cross country and soft tennis.
              
PERSONAL:  Born June 9, 1988 in Kailua, Hawaii, to Aaron and Colette Tanaka ... Has 1 sister, a twin named Joelle who is a junior on GSAC rival Biola's women's tennis team ... Majoring in business management.
