Biography
THIS YEAR: A returning NAIA All-American first team selection, senior Jenn Sousa once again teams with Heather Hannemann to form what has become the best defensive tandem in the GSAC, if not the NAIA … Is the glue that holds the Cougar defense together … Has a strong leg and good speed, which go well with her excellent field vision … Likes to push forward and make things happen.
2001: Started all 19 games … Anchored the Cougar defense that allowed just 7 goals in 19 games (0.36 GAA) … One of 4 Cougars named NAIA All-American first team … Also named All-GSAC … Scored 2 goals and had 5 assists for 9 points … Had a goal and an assist in the Cougars’ 6-0 win vs. Southern Oregon … Assisted on what became the game-winning goal in the Cougars’ 5-1 win over Indiana Wesleyan in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament.
2000: Started all 23 games in which she appeared . . . Named NAIA All-American honorable mention and All-GSAC as a defender for Azusa Pacific, which surrendered only 16 goals in 25 games . . . Scored her only goal of the season in a 10-0 win over The Master’s.
1999: Played in all 22 games as a 1999 freshman, starting 12 … Had 3 goals and 3 assists … Scored 1 of the Cougars’ 6 goals in the opening game of the NAIA Championship Tournament.
HIGH SCHOOL: Played 4 seasons of varsity soccer for St. Lucy’s Priory in Glendora, Calif. ... Named 1999 All-CIF first team while leading the Regents to the CIF semi-finals ... Was a 4-time all-league honoree ... Was a member of the 1998 CIF championship team ... Played for former Cougar Eric Smith.
PERSONAL: Born Feb. 7 in Pomona, Calif., to Sam and Heidi Sousa ... Has 2 brothers (Sam and Bobby) ... Majoring in liberal studies.
