Azusa Pacific University Athletics

Scott Mocabee has been a part of the Azusa Pacific coaching staff for over a since the 1999 season. He works closely with the goalkeepers.

A former goalie for the Cougar men, Mocabee works directly with the Azusa Pacific goalkeepers, and he has mentored some of the top goalkeepers in program history, including four-time NAIA All-American Jill Colfer-Martinson, 2003 graduate and 2001 NAIA All-American first team Melissa Strother and 1999 graduate Rachel Yanos. The Cougars have posted at least 10 shutouts a season since Mocabee joined the staff.


A successful head coach in his own right at the high school level, Mocabee has been the girls' soccer head coach for over 19 years at South Hills High in West Covina, Calif., where he led the Huskies to the first San Antonio League title in program history in 2007. He also guided the Huskies through a deep playoff run that spring that included a first-round upset in the CIF playoffs over No. 4-ranked Canyon High. For his efforts, Mocabee was named the 2007 San Gabriel Valley Tribune Coach of the Year. Mocabee has led South Hills to 10 CIF appearances, including quarterfinal berths in 2000 and 2005. The 2015-16 school year saw South Hills post a 26-1-5 record as they went undefeated in league play and won the CIF State Southern Region Championship. They were the number one ranked team in the state while earning top 10 national rankings from MaxPreps and the NCSAA. Macobee added another San Gabriel Valley Tribune Coach of the Year honor to his resume after that season.
 
Prior to his time at South Hills, Mocabee spent one season (1996-97) as Surrell's assistant at Bonita High in La Verne, Calif. There, Mocabee and Surrell guided the Bearcats to a Valle Vista league championship and a CIF semifinal appearance.

Mocabee played four seasons with the Cougar men, appearing in goal for 18 games, allowing 13 goals while posting six shutouts.  His best season came as a 1994 junior when he started 7 of the first 12 games and fashioned a 0.55 GAA while collecting 4 shutouts, including blankings of Cal Poly Pomona and GSAC rival Fresno Pacific.  However, a broken arm suffered in practice cost him the final 10 games of the season. 

Prior to coming to Azusa Pacific, Mocabee prepped at nearby San Dimas (Calif.) High where he was an All-Montview League honoree in water polo, tennis and soccer.  As a 1992 senior, he was named league MVP in soccer after registering a 0.60 GAA in league play.

Mocabee graduated from Azusa Pacific in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in math. He earned his master's degree in Education from Cal State San Bernardino and teaches math at South Hills High.  His parents, George and Norma, both worked at Azusa Pacific.
