Azusa Pacific University Athletics

Former Azusa Pacific star Mayra Mehrguth (formerly Almazan) joins the squad as an assistant coach for the upcoming season.

In addition to her exploits with the Cougars during her playing days, she was a member of the Costa Rica national team. She graduated from Azusa Pacific in December 2015 with a degree in Psychology.

During her playing day she also served as an assistant coach at South Hills high school for three years. She helped them to a league, CIF and State title for 2015-2016 school year. 

Mehrguth was recognized by the PacWest as the league co-Women of the Year. On the field she was a three-time all-conference selection. The native of La Puente was recognized the conference's Newcomer of the Year (2013) and Player of the Year (2015). Mehrguth earned NCCAA Player of the Year in helping the Cougars to the national title during the 2013 season. 

A transfer from UC Santa Barbara, she played in all 19 games with eight starts with the Gauchos.
