A longtime Azusa Pacific ambassador, Don Lawrence will serve as the women’s soccer interim head coach for the 2017 season. Lawrence began working at Azusa Pacific in 1973.

The all-time winningest men’s soccer coach in Azusa Pacific history, he accumulated a 180-120-31 mark during his 16 seasons at the helm. When he retired from coaching after the 2000 season he accumulated the most wins in Golden Coast Athletic Conference.

During his last seven seasons the squad won at least 10 games, hoisted three GSAC championship banners while earning the school’s first berth into the NAIA National tournament.

He also served as the head coach for the Cougars men’s basketball (two seasons) and men’s tennis (one season).

Since 1973 he has taught undergraduate and graduate level classes at Azusa Pacific. From 1982 until 2001 he served as chaired the school’s Physical Education department. In addition to his teaching exploits, Lawrence became the director of Azusa Pacific’s High Sierra Semester program in 2000.

The native of Lancaster, Penn. Earned his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Kings College (N.Y.). He has a master’s degree from East Stroudsburg and doctorate in education from Brigham Young University.
