THIS YEAR: One of 3 All-PacWest honorees returning for Azusa Pacific, junior Sofia Vasquez looks to build on a breakthrough sophomore campaign and press again for conference recognition while helping the Cougars chase their first conference title since 2013.
2023: Garnered All-PacWest third team recognition as a 2023 sophomore after finishing 21st in the conference meet at Woodward Park in Fresno with a 22:22.2 on the 6K course ... Joined the Cougars in the NCAA West Regional Meet where she clocked a 22:54.3 on a course in Monmouth, Ore. ... In all, appeared in 4 meets for the Cougars, recording a season-best 21:52.4 in the season-opening meet at UC Riverside
2022: Named Academic All-PacWest... Raced in all 5 of the Cougars' meets... Finished 29th overall at the PacWest Championships... Placed 58th overall at the NCAA West Regionals... Posted a season-best 6K time of 22:22.9 at the Highlander Classic.
ON THE TRACK: In 2 seasons on the Cougars' nationally-regarded track & field program, has run in 20 races from the 800 to the 5000, including a 4x400 relay ... During the 2024 season, registered career bests of 2:23.26 (800) and 4:48.39 (1500) ... During the 2023 track season, recorded personal bests of 5:23.38 (mile) and 18:12.08 (5000) at the Mike Fanelli Classic in Hayward, Calif. ... Has run the 1500 at each of the past 2 PacWest Championship Meet, advancing to the 2024 finals where she finished tenth with a 4:49.32.
HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Connections Academy but ran 3 seasons of cross country for her father and head coach Chris Vasquez at Summerville Union High in Tuolumne, Calif., where she qualified for 3 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section championship meets, winning the 2001 Division V title as a senior with a 19:50.1 on the 5K course at Willow Hill Reservoir, winning by 5 seconds ... As a 2019 sophomore, finished seventh in the CIF Sac-Joaquin championship meet with a 20:24.3 on a 5K run ... Did not run cross country as a 2020 junior because of COVID ... Ran 4 seasons of track & field for the Bears, posting personal bests of 5:27.95 (1600), 11:15.37 (3200) and 21:24.55 (5000) ... As a senior, was a 2-time Mother Lode Leage champion, winning the 1600 (5:30.86) and 3200 (12:26.11) ... Earned All-America recognition at the USA Track & field Naitonal Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships in Madison, Wis., in Dec. 2019.
