THIS YEAR: Second-year Cougar Sofia Camacho is a key returnee for Azusa Pacific, bringing a wealth of experience and talent that will allow her to be among the best in the PacWest Conference while pressing for regional honors ... Has her eyes on the school record in the 800.
2023: Appeared in 4 meets during her 2023 junior season, her first at Azusa Pacific ... Earned All-PacWest first team recognition after finishing seventh (21:34.8) in the conference meet at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif. ... Used a season-best 21:28.2 on a 6K course to finish 16th at earned NCAA All-West Region during the regional meet at Monmouth, Ore. ... Debuted at Azusa Pacific with a 21:53.5 at the UCR Invitational.
ON THE TRACK: Enjoyed a fine first season at Azusa Pacific, clocking 3 personal bests, all landing in the Top Ten all-time performers in Azusa Pacific's storied history, including a 2:07.80, the second fastest time in program history ... Used the PB to qualify for the NCAAs in the 800 but did not advance out of the prelims after running a 2:11.07 ... At the PacWest Championships in Santa Barbara, registered 11 points for the Cougars by finishing third in the 1500 (4:33.02), fifth in the 800 (2:13.97), and eighth in the 5000 (18:04.90) ... At the Bryan Clay Invitational in mid-April, recorded personal bests in the 1500 (4:26.13 - seventh fastest performer in APU history) and the 5000 (17:00.63 - eighth fastest performer in program history).
HARTNELL: Ran 2 seasons of cross country at Hartnell College in Salinas, Calif., displaying tremendous growth and development in distance running ... Was a 2-time all-state honoree ... Put together an outstanding 2021 freshman season, finishing eighth in the CCCAA state championship meet, running an 18:48 on the 4-mile course at Woodward Park to lead the Panthers to a state runner-up finish... Won both the Coast Conference (18:26.2) and Northern California Regional (19:22.1) championships ... As a 2022 sophomore, finished ninth (18:47.2) at the CCCAA state meet to pace Hartnell to a tenth-place finish ... Was third in the NorCal Regional Championships (18:47.2) ... On the track, was the 2022 CCCAA state champion in the 800m, a two-time state runner up in the 1500m, and five-time individual conference champion, including twice in the 1500 ...
