2021: Named PacWest Newcomer of the Year… Was an All-West Region and First Team All-PacWest performer… At the PacWest Championships in Hawai’i, Akers was the Cougars' top-finisher with a fourth-place finish… At Regionals, Akers placed 16th… In four of her five races, Akers finished within the top-10, including three races in which she was fourth… Ran her fastest 6K of the season at the Cougar Challenge with a time of 21:16.7... Academic All-PacWest honoree.
SAN JOSE STATE: Attended San Jose State for 3 years, competing 2 seasons … Competed in 7 races, 5 as a sophomore and 2 as a freshman … Posted a personal 6K best of 21:17.8 at the 2019 Bronco Invitational at Santa Clara … Best showing was a 34th place finish at the 2019 USF Invitational … Redshirtted the 2018 campaign.
HIGH SCHOOL: Ran 4 seasons of track & field and 1 of cross country at Los Banos (Calif.) High … As a 2017 senior was named the school’s outstanding female athlete-of-the-year … Was a 5-time All-Western Athletic Conference champion in track & field, sweeping the 400 (1:02.89) and 800 (2:35.82) as a 2017 senior, and the 200 (26.93) and 400 (1:00.37) as a 2016 junior … Also ran the second leg on the Tigers’ 4x400 that won (4:30.46) 2017 WAC title … As a junior, won the CIF Sac Joaquin 400 championship with a 59.55 … Clocked a personal-best 2:18.10 in the 800, finishing tenth at the 2017 CIF Masters Meet.
PERSONAL: Born Sept. 21, 1999, in Hollister, Calif., to Sam and Carmen Akers … Has an older brother (Pryce) and younger brother (Chase) … Majoring in communications … Wants to work in social media management and animal rehabilitation after graduation …. Enjoys baking and singing.
