THIS YEAR: Two time All-GSAC senior guard Kelly Speas is the catalyst of what should be an explosive Cougar offense . . . Tremendous passer who plays well in the open court. . . Fantastic dribbler able to spot up for the shot or drive by her opponent . . . Currently ranks second on Azusa Pacific's career assists list with 443 and fourth on the career 3-point chart with 69.
1998: Honored as an All-GSAC player for the second consecutive year following a 1998 junior campaign in which she started 30 games, averaging a team-best 13 points and 4.8 assists (second in the GSAC) . . . Also averaged 4.1 rebounds . . . Was team's high scorer in 11 games, including a season-high 21 in the season-opener at Cal Poly Pomona . . . Scored in double-digits in 26 of the 31 games . . . Led the Cougars in minutes played for the second straight season . . . Dished out a season-high 9 assists against Bethany . . . Grabbed a season-high 9 rebounds vs. Holy Names and CS Dominguez Hills . . . Made a career-high 9 field goals against Oklahoma Baptist, scoring 20 points . . . Had at least 15 points in 13 contests.
1997: An All-GSAC selection for her 1997 sophomore year efforts . . . Led the Cougars in minutes per game (32.8) and assists (5.2), and was second in scoring (13.2 ppg). . . Her 162 assists is third best all-time season total . . . Started all 31 games . . . Had a career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds against Concordia . . . Dished out a season-high 10 assists against Occidental . . . . Fourth on the team in total rebounds with 138 . . . Second in the GSAC and sixteenth in the NAIA in assists per game . . . Led the team in scoring 4 different games.
1996: Started 18 of 25 games played . . . Slowed slightly by an ankle sprain . . . Was third on the team in free throw percentage at .699 (51-of-73) . . . Had a high of 7 steals vs. Mills . . .Led the team with 5.3 assists, good enough for second in the GSAC. . . Averaged 29.6 minutes a game . . . Registered season highs of 18 points (vs. Concordia), 6 rebounds (vs. Whittier) and a career-high 11 assists (vs. Pacific Christian and Point Loma Nazarene).
HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Rancho Bernardo High in San Diego, where she was the 1995 CIF Division I Player of the Year . . . Was Palomar League MVP as a senior when she averaged 15 points and 5 assists . . . Led Rancho Bernardo to a 22-7 record the CIF San Diego Section championship game . . . Posted career highs of 23 points and 10 assists . . . As a 1994 junior, won All-CIF and All-Palomar League second team honors . . . As a sophomore, started for Rancho Bernardo's 1993 CIF title team.
PERSONAL: Born June 5, 1977, in San Diego, to David and Carol Speas . . . Her dad, David, who is a pastor, played several years in the Los Angeles Dodgers' farm system . . . 1 of 3 children . . . Majoring in physical education, and aspires to be a high school teacher.
