Biography

THIS YEAR:  A 2-time All-PacWest honoree and the conference's reigning player and defender of the year, fifth-year forward Kelly Heimburger is a do-it-all player who can score from the perimeter and at the basket while playing great defense at the other end ... Teams with Amayah Kirkman to give the Cougars a dynamic 1-2 scoring punch ... Known for her mobility and shot-blocking skills ... Enters the season sixth on the all-time Cougar charts with 168 blocks and is looking to become only the second Cougar ever to collect 200 career blocked shots ... Has been a key figure in the Cougars' posting a 55-4 record in PacWest play over the past 3 seasons.

2023-24:  Named PacWest Player of the Year and Defender of the Year after averaging 15.1 points (PacWest-leading 499 points), 5.9 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks ... Became only the second player in PacWest history to earn both player and defender of the year awards in the same season ... Her 66 blocked shots in 33 games were the sixth most in a single season in APU history ... Tallied 7 20-point games, which included a career-high 27 to help the Cougars rally from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat Point Loma, 67-63, at home ... Also had 25 points and a career-high 6 assists in a 77-68 victory over Western Oregon ... Scored 46 points in 2 wins over arch-rival Biola, including 25 (half of the Cougars' points) in a 50-47 victory in La Mirada when she hit the game-winning trey from the left wing with a second left, one of her career-high 5 three-pointers in the contest ... Had a career-high 6 blocked shots to go along with a team-high 19 points in an 82-53 thumping of Dominican in Azusa ... Recorded a pair of double-doubles, including an 18-point, season-high 10-rebound showing in a 101-74 victory over Chaminade.

2022-23: Named All-PacWest second team after averaging 11.7 points and 6.0 rebounds … Started all 31 games, averaging over 31 minutes a game …  Was second on the team in rebounds (187) and led the squad with 53 blocked shots … Scored in double figures 17 times, including a season-high 24 points at Biola … Registered 2 double-doubles, including an 18-point, career-high 17-rebound effort at Dominican.

2021-22: 
Earned Academic All-PacWest distinction… Appeared in 28 games as a key reserve for the Cougars, averaging 21.2 minutes and 7.4 points while shooting at a .469 (83-for-175) clip from the floor ... Knockied down 12 three-pointers… Was second on the team with 24 blocks and tallied 111 rebounds, 43 assists and 13 steals… In a season-opening 78-74 win over Cal Poly Pomona, scored a season-high 18 points, including the game's final 5 points in OT ... In a 67-61 victory over Seattle Pacific, had 17 points on 3 three-pointers to go along with 3 steals. 

2020-21 (COVID-abbreviated season)Put together a very fine rookie campaign, appearing in all 17 games of a COVID-shortened season, starting 13 ... Averaged 11.8 points and 6.9 rebounds, the latter number placing her second on the team ... Recorded 4 double-doubles, starting an 11-point, 10-rebound effort in her collegiate debut, a 66-63 victory at Biola (Jan. 22) ... Tallied a season-high 22 points to go along with 7 rebounds in regular-season finale win over Point Loma to help the Cougars secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament ... Led the team with 25 blocked shots ... Named PacWest All-Academic. 

HIGH SCHOOL: Played 4 seasons of varsity basketball for Head Coach Wade Nakamura at Presentation High in San Jose, Calif. ... Was a key part of a Panther program that went 73-39 (.652) during her career ... Was All-West Catholic League first team as a junior and senior... As a 2020 senior led the Panthers to a 19-8 record and the CIF-Central Coast Section DII championship with a 46-37 victory over St. Francis ... All-WCAL honorable mention as a sophomore.

PERSONAL:  Born May, 6, 2002, in San Jose, Calif., to Jeff Heimburger and Tara Bergen ... Has 1 older brother (Jake) and an older sister (Julia, who teamed with Kelly for 2 years at Presentation) ... Her mother played soccer at Boston College ... Graduated with a bachelor's degree in Psychology in the spring of 2024 and is currently working on a master's in Organizational Psychology.
