THIS YEAR: Junior college transfer Jenni Simmons gives Azusa Pacific some much-needed production in the post this year ... Is a small but quick force in the middle ... Will battle teammate Mayer to start at power forward ... Very quick up and down the floor and can fill the landes extremely well ... Has a good 15-foot shot and therefore can play some on the wing.
JORGENSON SAYS: "Jenni is very fast. No post in the entire conference can run faster or longer than Jenni. She'll be our third performer with Speas and Brock. She posts up well for her size and is a good ball handler. She'll need to work on her defense to stay with the bigger players down low. She'll run our fast break well."
JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played 2 years at Wenatchee (Wash.) Valley Community College ... Named MVP as both a 1995 freshman and 1996 sophomore ... Averaged 14.8 points and 6.3 rebounds as a 1995 sophomore and 15.3 points and 6.7 rebounds as a 1996 junior ... Named all-conference both years ... Won the team's Outstanding Freshman award ... Named the Dick Preper Memorial recipient for outstanding sophomore player ... Twice equaled the school single-game record of 36 points ... Also had a career-high 18 points.
HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered in basketball, volleyball, and track & field at Pateros (Wash.) High, from which she graduated in 1994 ... A r-year varsity player in all three sports.
PERSONAL: Born Nov. 22, 1975, in Denver, Colo., to Walter and Susan Simmons ... Majoring in liberal studies with hopes of being an elementary school teacher.
