Biography

THIS YEAR: Sophomore guard Charlene Simril is a developing player who could prove to be a valuable weapon off the bench . . . A good perimeter shooter who plays well in the transition game . . . Hoping to expand her game . . . Just needs more experience on the college level. 

1999: Played in 29 games as a 1999 freshman . . . Had season-high 15 points vs. Cal State Hayward . . . Had season-high 4 rebounds twice vs. Hope International and GSAC-rival Point Loma . . . Recorded season-high 6 steals in only her second game as a Cougar. 

HIGH SCHOOL: A 3 sport athlete -- basketball, softball and track -- at Western Christian High in Covina, Calif., from which she graduated from in 1998 . . . Set a school record with 1,067 points in her 4-year career for coach Adam Bartholomew's Lancers . . . Named All-Alpha League second team as a 1995 freshman . . . Led Western Christian to the state playoffs as a 1996 sophomore and was named All-Christian League second team . . . As a 1997 junior, led the Lancers to the Christian League and CIF Southern Section championships . . . Averaged 16.7 points and was named All-CIF, All-Christian League first team and Lancer MVP as a junior . . . Also named MVP of Christian League in track and field as a junior . . . Named All-Christian League MVP and All-CIF her 1998 senior season, averaging 18.7 points and 4.1 assists . . . Lancers were undefeated Christian League champs her senior season as well. 

PERSONAL: Born on May 30, 1980, in Glendale, Calif., to David and Angel Simril . . . Uncle Bruce Boyd played college basketball at College of the Ozarks (Missouri) . . . Enjoys hiking, biking and jazz music. . . A top 10 senior award recipient . . . Named Lancer 1997 Homecoming queen . . . Was an ASB chaplain . . . Worked at a YWCA during her senior year as a assistant coach for youth basketball . . . Has served as a summer camp counselor . . . Majoring in psychology at Azusa Pacific with plans to become a child psychologist.
