THIS YEAR: One of the finest players in Azusa Pacific history, senior centerfielder Lorna Lyttle looks to rebound from a sub-par junior campaign ... A former GSAC Player of the Year and NAIA All-American ... Is Azusa Pacific's all-time leader in home runs (24) and ranks among the top 5 in RBIs, doubles and runs scored ... An outstanding athlete with a great arm ... Has good speed to go with her powerful bat.
2001: Played in all 57 games, batting .308 with team-bests 7 home runs, 13 doubles (second best in the GSAC)( and 37 RBIs ... Named All-GSAC first team for the second consecutive year ... Hit safely in 36 of 57 games, which included 11 multiple-hit contests ... Put together a season-high 7-game hitting streak in late February, batting .500 (10-for-20) during the run ? Did not commit an error in 68 chances in the outfield, throwing out 3 base runners as well.
2000: Named GSAC Player of the Year and NAIA All-American second team in a record-setting sophomore season ... Broke the Azusa Pacific single-season and career home run marks with one swing of the bat, hitting a 3-run blast to help the Cougars to a 12-2 victory over Concordia in Irvine ... Led the GSAC champion Cougars in home runs (11), RBIs (45), doubles (11), walks (28) and batting average (.413) ... Hit home runs in consecutive victories over St. Ambrose (Iowa) and Walsh (Ohio) at the NAIA Tournament ... Went 3-for-3 with a walk and 2 runs in a 7-0 victory over Simon Fraser (B.C.) to clinch a spot in the national championship game ... Had 21 multiple-hit games ... Bashed 2 home runs, driving in 5 runs, in a 14-0 victory over Cal Lutheran ... During a career-best 13-game hitting streak, led the Cougars to 12 wins by batting .686 (24-for-35) with 3 doubles, 6 HRs, 18 RBIs and 16 runs ... Committed only 1 error in 59 chances ... Reached base safely in only 5 of the first 10 games, then was kept off base in only 4 games the rest of the season.
1999: Returned to softball after a 3-year layoff ... Earned All-GSAC recognition after leading the team in home runs (6) and RBIs (40) ... Hit safely in 18 of the last 23 games of the season ... Named GSAC Player of the Week after leading the Cougars to 5 wins in 6 games, batting 9-for-21 (.429) with 8 runs, 3 doubles, 2 HRs and 10 RBIs ... Batted .500 (11-for-22) with 5 extra-base hits, 8 runs scored and 11 RBIs over the course of a 7-game hitting streak ... Tallied a career-high 5 RBIs while batting 2-for-3 with 2 runs and a home run in an 8-0 win over Cal Baptist ... Had 12 multiple-hit games, including a 3-for-3 performance in an 8-0 victory over Concordia, in which she scored twice, and had a home run and 3 RBIs ... Led team with 12 stolen bases in 15 attempts.
UNLV: Lettered the 1997 volleyball season at UNLV.
JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played 2 seasons of volleyball at Golden West College in Huntington Beach, Calif. ... Led the Rustlers to the 1995 and 1996 state junior college championships ... Did not play softball.
HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Palm Desert (Calif.) High from which she graduated in 1995 ... Was a 3-sport standout, earning 4 varsity letters each in volleyball, basketball and softball ... Earned All-Desert Valley first team recognition in all 3 sports ... In softball, led the Aztecs in hits, home runs, and RBIs in 2 different seasons ... Twice named Palm Desert High Athlete of the Year (1994 and 1995).
PERSONAL: Born Oct. 5, 1977, in Palm Springs, Calif., to Harold (mechanic) and Icilda Lyttle (pronounced "little")... Older sister, Moya, attended Azusa Pacific ... Toured Europe for 2 summers playing softball ... Graduated in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in liberal studies and is currently working on her teaching credential ... Wants to be a high school special education teacher and coach volleyball or softball
