THIS YEAR: One of several Cougar freshmen who have a strong chance of cracking the starting line-up, rookie Courtney Cleaves has been a very nice find for Azusa Pacific coach Sharon Lehman ... A quality player with a good bat, strong arm and sound fundamentals ... Has a promising future ahead of her. 

HIGH SCHOOL: Played 3 seasons of varsity softball at Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) High ... Was a member of 3 Baseline League champion teams, including her 2001 sophomore team that also captured the CIF Division I Southern Section championships after winning 23 of 28 games ... The Cougars were 58-20 during Cleaves' 3 years ... Was also quite accomplished in water polo, twice earning all-league recognition along with being named team MVP as a senior ... Was on the principal's honor roll all 3 years. 

PERSONAL: Born April 17, 1985, in Santa Monica, Calif., to Jeff (general contractor) and Denice (education administration) Cleaves ... Has 3 sisters (Ashley, Brittney, Carley) ... Majoring in sociology.
