Doug Barnett is in his fourth year as the softball head coach at Azusa Pacific and has been the most successful coach in the history of the program. The Cougars have won 2 NAIA District 3 titles under Barnett direction, and during those two seasons, finished runner-up in the tri-district playoffs. He has a career softball won-lost record of 86–60 at APU.
A highly acclaimed football player and track and field athlete during his playing days at Azusa Pacific, Barnett later went on to play for six seasons in the National Football Leage (Rams, Redskins). While at Azusa Pacific, Barnett earned NAIA All- American honors as a defensive tackle. He also claimed 7 NAIA All-America honors in track and field, and still holds the NAIA national hammer throw record. He is a member of NAIA Hall of Fame, having been inducted in 1988, and is a charter member of the Azusa Pacific Hall of Fame, having been inducted in 1991.
In addition to his softball chores, Barnett also serves as it is assistant football coach at APU.
Barnett and his wife, Diane, live In Ontario. They have two children, Eleanor and Ethan.
