  • TITLE
    Head Coach
  • ALMA MATER
    Chico State '00

Carrie Webber completed her 19th season as the head coach of Azusa Pacific softball in 2026. Under her leadership, the Cougars have made three NCAA Division II postseason appearances since becoming active NCAA Division II members in 2015, while also reaching three NAIA National Tournaments prior to the program’s transition to Division II.

In 2026, Webber guided the Cougars to a 23-29 overall record and a 16-20 mark in PacWest play. Azusa Pacific opened the season by winning six of its first eight games and later recorded a four-game sweep of Hawai‘i Pacific in conference action.

In 2025, Webber guided the Cougars to a 31-22 overall record and a 23-13 mark in PacWest play, advancing to the championship game of the PacWest Softball Championships for the second consecutive season. Azusa Pacific earned key victories throughout the year over nationally respected programs including Western Washington, Biola, and Concordia, while also recording series wins against Menlo, Academy of Art, Cal State San Bernardino, and Vanguard. The Cougars reached the tournament finals after postseason victories over Dominican and Biola

In 2024, Webber guided Azusa Pacific back to the NCAA Division II postseason for the third consecutive season after the Cougars finished as PacWest regular season runners-up and advanced to the championship game of the conference tournament. Azusa Pacific posted a 31-21 overall record and advanced to the NCAA West Regional semifinals before falling to top-seeded Western Washington. During the season, the Cougars also earned four victories over nationally-ranked opponents.

In 2023, Webber led the Cougars to their second consecutive NCAA postseason appearance. Azusa Pacific advanced to the NCAA West Regional championship game, finished as runner-up in the inaugural PacWest Tournament, and concluded the season with a 34-26 overall record. In 2022, the Cougars posted a 35-17 record while earning a second-place finish in the PacWest regular season standings.

Webber has produced three of Azusa Pacific’s eight all-time 40-win seasons, including a 40-12 campaign in 2016 that saw the Cougars capture their first PacWest championship and host the NCAA Division II West Regional. She became the second head coach in program history to reach 200 career wins, accomplishing the feat in her seventh season in 2014, and has led Azusa Pacific to postseason appearances in the NAIA, NCCAA, and NCAA Division II ranks.

In 2021, Webber guided the Cougars to an 18-18 record despite playing a conference schedule exclusively against the top two seeds from the NCAA West Regional. Azusa Pacific posted an 11-1 non-conference record and earned five victories over eventual national runner-up Biola.

In 2016, Azusa Pacific won 22 of its final 25 regular-season games, including its final 11 in a row, to secure the program’s first PacWest championship. The Cougars extended their winning streak to 13 games with NCAA tournament victories over UC San Diego and Central Washington before falling in the regional finals. Nicki Sprague earned her third consecutive PacWest Player of the Year honor and NFCA All-American Second Team recognition, while Webber was named the PacWest Coach of the Year. Nine Cougars received all-conference honors during the season.

In 2015, Webber led the Cougars to a 29-26 record during the program’s first season of active NCAA Division II membership. Under her guidance, Nicki Sprague became the first player in PacWest history to earn consecutive conference Player of the Year honors.

During Azusa Pacific’s final provisional season in 2014, the Cougars posted a 40-19 overall record and finished third in the PacWest standings with a 22-10 conference mark. One season earlier in 2013, Azusa Pacific adjusted to PacWest competition with a 23-24 overall record in its first year in the conference.

Webber has coached 22 All-Region selections and 57 All-PacWest honorees since 2014, including 21 First Team selections. She also coached four-time All-American and three-time PacWest Player of the Year Nicki Sprague from 2014-17. Off the field, Webber’s teams have earned more than 100 Academic All-PacWest selections.

Webber led Azusa Pacific to NAIA National Tournament appearances in 2011 and 2012, marking the program’s first back-to-back national tournament appearances since 1996-97. In 2011, the Cougars posted a 33-23 record and earned their first NAIA Tournament berth in over a decade. Azusa Pacific opened the tournament with a 9-7 victory over St. Thomas (Fla.), setting a national tournament record with eight doubles in a game. A year later, the Cougars posted a 42-11 record and recorded the program’s first 40-win season since 2003.

In 2010, Webber led a young Cougar roster featuring 10 freshmen to a 27-22 record, matching the win total from the previous season. In 2009, she guided Azusa Pacific to its first winning season since 2006 and a GSAC Tournament semifinal appearance.

Webber inherited a roster that lost its entire outfield and middle infield entering her first season in 2008, but still guided the Cougars to a third-place GSAC finish while narrowly missing the conference tournament.

Prior to arriving at Azusa Pacific, Webber spent five seasons as the head coach at Santa Rosa Junior College, compiling a 116-93 overall record from 2003-07. She guided the Bear Cubs to four consecutive 20-win seasons, including a 29-10 campaign and Bay Valley West League championship in 2004.

Before her tenure at Santa Rosa, Webber spent one season as an assistant coach at Butte Community College and another as an assistant coach at Chico Union High School.

Webber has long viewed softball as an opportunity for ministry and outreach. For six years, she coached with Competitive Edge International (CEI), an interdenominational Christian sports ministry that works primarily in the 10/40 window. She also spent three summers as a counselor for Kids Across America, an inner-city youth Christian sports camp.

A native of Sonora, California, Webber was a four-year letterwinner at NCAA Division II Chico State University. As the Wildcats’ starting shortstop, she started all 201 games of her collegiate career while batting .262 with 168 hits, 28 doubles, 67 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases. As a senior in 2000, she led the team with 11 doubles and still ranks among Chico State’s all-time top-10 leaders in several offensive categories.

Webber was also a two-sport standout at Sonora High School, earning four varsity letters in both softball and basketball before graduating in 1995.

Webber earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical education from Chico State.
