Biography

1998: Senior Cindy Dykstra possesses great hands and a terrific knowledge of the game . . . A vocal leader . . . Will concentrate solely at first base after pitching in her first 3 seasons . . . Figures to bat in the bottom third of the line-up . . . Always working to improve . . . A solid defensive player.

LEHMAN’S LYRIC: "Cindy has struggled to earn her spot the past 3 years, but has never quit. She is an excellent first baseman and provides valuable leadership. She is working on executing at the plate and increasing her bat speed."

1997: Started 37 of the Cougars’ 63 games as a 1997 junior . . . Hit .230 (23-for-100) at the plate, scoring 19 runs . . . Struck out 30 times, second highest on the team . . . Pitched in 3 games, not allowing a hit, but walking 12 in 1.1 innings . . . Went 2-for-3 in the third game of the year vs. Chaminade and 4-for-11 during the 4-game Hawaii tourney . . . Went 9-for-25 during a 7-game stretch during the last week of April, all against GSAC opponents, putting together a 4-game hitting streak . . . Drove home a season-high 2 RBIs in the NAIA Far West Regional vs. SCC . . . Had a team high .994 fielding percentage, including 304 put-outs, with just 2 errors.

1996: Hit .269 (18-for-67) while playing in 42 games as a 1996 sophomore. . . Started 27 contests . . . Pitched early in the season, earning 2 victories, then finished the season as a part-time player at first base . . . Led the team with 256 put-outs . . . Second on the team in fielding percentage (.989). . . Went 5-for-6 in 2 games vs. CS San Bernardino and Biola, with 5 runs and 2 RBIs . . . Had 3 multiple RBI games . . . In her 4 games on the mound, had a 2.06 ERA . . . Opponents managed a low .217 batting average.

1995: Appeared in 42 games as a 1995 freshman, starting 11 on the mound and the rest either at first base or as a designated player . . . Was 6-5 as a pitcher with a 2.78 ERA . . . Stuck out 24 in 60.1 innings worth of work . . . Best plate performance was a 3-for-3 effort with 2 RBIs, a run and double in the Cougars’ victory over Carleton (Minn.) . . . On the mound, best showing was a 1-hit, 5-inning shutout over Pacific Christian . . . Also fired a 5-inning, 2-hit complete game shutout over Biola . . . Stuck out a season-high 5 in a 7-inning effort against Point Loma Nazarene.

VALLEY CHRISTIAN HIGH: Was a 4-year varsity player at Valley Christian High in Cerritos, Calif. . . . Received All-Olympic League first team honors all 4 years . . . As a 1991 freshman and 1992 sophomore was named All-CIF second team . . . As a 1993 junior and 1994 senior, earned All-CIF first team and was named team MVP . . . As a senior, won Long Beach Press-Telegram "Dream Team" honors . . . Also lettered in volleyball and basketball.

PERSONAL: Born Feb. 1, 1976, in Bellflower, Calif., to Bob and Eleanor Dykstra . . . Wants to get into coaching after college . . . Greatest athletic thrill was going to 3 CIF championships in her senior year and winning 2 out of 3 (basketball and softball) . . . Brother Kurt played baseball at Azusa Pacific . . . Enjoys movies and going to the beach . . . A liberal studies major at Azusa Pacific, with an emphasis in physical education
