Biography
THIS YEAR: Senior Micah Goins looks to put his name on the lengthy list of Cougar great throwers ... A quality athlete who excels in the hammer and shot. 2003: Earned a pair of All-American honors, his first ever, at the NAIA Indoor Championships in Johnson City, Tenn., where he was sixth in the shot put (49-6 3/4) and fifth in the weight throw (career-best 56-1 3/4) ... Qualified for the outdoor championships in the hammer, finishing 11th (career-best 163-3) ... Tallied 28 points in helping lead Azusa Pacific to the Golden State Athletic Conference championship by winning the discus (145-10) and hammer (155-4) while finishing second in the shot (46-2 1/2).Â
2002: Qualified for both the NAIA Indoor and Outdoor Championships, competing in the shot put, 35-pound weight throw and hammer throw but did not advance to any finals ... Earned all-conference by finishing third in the shot at the GSAC Meet ? Was fourth in the hammer and discus throws ? Best showing of the season came at the Point Loma Invitational where he recorded season bests in the discus (lifetime best 149-7) and hammer (157-10). 2001: Qualified for his first NAIA Meets but did not advance out of the preliminary rounds of the outdoor shot put and the indoor weight throw ? At the GSAC Championships in Santa Barbara was second to teammate Jesse Roberge in the hammer (150-3) and third in the shot put (45-10).Â
2000: Redshirted the 2000 season while attending classes at Azusa Pacific.Â
HIGH SCHOOL: Lettered 3 years in track & field and 2 in football at Los Altos (Calif.) High from which he graduated in 1999.Â
PERSONAL: Born Paul Micah Goins on May 19, 1981, in Mountain View, Calif., to Doug (pastor) and Candace (office assistant) Goins ... Has 1 brother (Trevor) and 2 sisters (Kathryn and Alayna).
