Biography

THIS YEAR:  Clearly one of the leaders of the team, junior Will Medina is looking to bounce back from a substandard 2024 and be a pivotal figure in the Cougar offense and a constant in the middle of the line-up ... Is inked in to be the Cougars' regular left fielder ... Has a terrific bat ... Noted for his attitude and hard work ... Could press for postseason honors.

2024:  Started 30 of 36 games played for the Cougars during his sophomore campaign ... Batted just .205 (23-for-112) with 6 doubles, a home run, and 12 RBIs ... Struggled out of the gate, going just 3-for-29 (.103) through the first 8 games before exploding with a 4-for-7 effort with 2 runs and an RBI in as the Cougars rallied from a 12-2 fifth-inning deficit for a 19-18 victory over San Francisco State ... Only other multi-hit game was a 2-for-3 showing with an RBI in an 8-3 PacWest win against Hawaii-Hilo.

2023: Put together a remarkable 2023 breakout season as a redshirt freshman ... Earned his first collegiate start 2 months into the season simply as a reward for his positive work ethic in practice, and responded wth a home run in his first at-bat for his first collegiate hit ...  Then proceeded to hit safely in 15 of the Cougars' final 16 games, which included 9 multi-hit contests ... Best showing was a 5-for-6 effort with 5 RBIs, a double and a triple in the Cougars' 13-5 PacWest win at Biola (April 14) … In the end, appeared in just 21 of the Cougars' 54 games, starting 17, but batted .400 (30-for-75) with 3 doubles, 3 home runs and 19 RBIs … Batted .346 (9-for-26) in the postseason which included a 7-for-14 clip with 7 RBIs and 6 run in leading the Cougars to a 3-game sweep and the first-ever PacWest Tournament championship ... Post a .587 slugging percentage and a .427 on-base percentage, and was also 3-for-3 in stolen bases… Defensively, had eight putouts in the outfield ... Named Academic All-PacWest.

2022: Redshirted the 2022 season. 

HIGH SCHOOL: Played 4 seasons of varsity baseball for Head Coach Darren Murphy at San Gabriel Valley power South Hills High in West Covina, Calif. ... Was a 4-year starter for the Huskies, appearing in 66 games during his career, which included an 8-game COVID-shortened 2020 junior season ... Was a team captain in his 2021 senior season... Started on varsity as a freshman and helped his team win back-to-back Palomares League titles in his first 2 seasons ... As a senior, earned class valedictorian for his academic work and named Male Athlete of the Year.

PERSONAL: Born Nov. 7, 2002 in Baldwin, Calif ... Son of Julie and David Medina ... Has a younger brother (Chase) ... Hopes to work in an MLB front office someday ... Enjoys spending time with family and friends, watching TV and movies, and playing video games.
