Biography

THIS YEAR: Lopez avoided the traditional sophomore slump in 2024, having a breakout season last year. She has become a weapon for the Cougars in both singles and doubles. The PacWest proved last year that it is still one of the deepest conferences in NCAA Division II so having strong players in the back end of the lineup is critical for bringing home hardware in April and May. That’s what Lopez can provide for the Cougars.
 
2024: Named to the Academic All-PacWest Team…Went 18-4 in singles during her sophomore campaign, playing primarily at No. 6 singles… Recorded the second-most singles victories on the team for the season and is the 15th player in Cougar history to win 18 matches in a single season… Went 14-4 in doubles, playing alongside Katherine Nguyen… Won eight-consecutive singles matches in straight-sets in March… Won 6-1, 6-1 against Concordia in the Cougars’ semifinal victory at the PacWest Championships, and won 6-3, 6-3 against Point Loma in the NCAA West Regional to advance to the National Championships… Had a 10-match winning streak in doubles with Nguyen during which the duo did not lose more than three games in any completed set.
 
2023: Earned recognition on the Academic All-PacWest Team… Played in the singles lineup in three matches, going 2-1 at the No. 6 position with a pair of straight-set wins over PacWest opponents… Played No. 3 doubles primarily with April Wong and recorded a 2-5 record… Earned a 7-5 win with Wong at No. 3 doubles against Concordia to clinch the doubles point in the semifinal win at the PacWest Championships.
 
HIGH SCHOOL: Played varsity tennis all four years at Glenbard West High School under head coach Kevin Graham… Captained the team during her junior and senior seasons… As a sophomore, partnered with her sister, Sienna, in doubles and won the 2019 IHSA Doubles Championship… As a senior, finished in the top-16 in IHSA.
 
PERSONAL: Born on Jan. 31, 2004 in Chicago to Santiago and Vilma Lopez… Has an older brother, Siegfried, and an old sister, Sienna… Sienna played women’s tennis at Purdue Northwest where she played the No. 1 position in both singles and doubles… Plays right-handed with a two-handed backhand… Studying psychology and desires to pursue a masters degree after taking a gap year to coach tennis at Eola Tennis Academy… Enjoys thrifting, baking, cooking, music, fashion, and lifting.
