Biography

THIS YEAR:  A powerful player, redshirt freshman Jacob Hayes is ready to assume a starting role at first base and use his bat to help propel the Cougar offense ... Should bat in the middle of the line-up and be among the team leaders in home runs and doubles ... Could push for conference recognition if progresses well over the course of the season ... Has a very promising future ahead of him.

2024:  Redshirtted his first season at Azusa Pacific, practicing with the team while attending classes at APU.

HIGH SCHOOL:  Was a 2-sport standout at Anacortes (Wash) High, playing 3 years of varsity baseball for Head Coach Pat Swapp, and 3 years of varsity basketball for Head Coach Brett Senff ... In baseball, led the Seahawks to a 3-year record of 32-16 and one Northwest Conference title playing as a pitcher and third baseman ... Was a 3-time All-Northwest Conference first team honoree ... As a 2023 senior, named all-state and Skagit County Baseball Player of the Year after batting .382 at the plate while as a pitcher striking out 54 in 49 innings and leading Anacortes to a 13-4 record ... In basketball, led the Seahawks to a 3-year record of 37-14, which included a 21-4 during his 2023 senior season when he averaged 13 points and 7 rebounds and led Anacortes to the opening round of the state 2A playoffs ... Named Skagit County Male Athlete of the Year in 2023 for his play in both baseball and basketball.

PERSONAL:  Born Dec. 1, 2004 in San Carlos, Calif., to Brian and Shannon Hayes ... Is the youngest of 3 sons (Daniel, Andrew) ... His mother, as Shannon Solway, played 2 years of basketball at Azusa Pacific, starting all 51 games she played for the Cougars during the 1993 and 1994 seasons, averaging 12.6 points and 6.9 rebounds while leading the Cougars to a 2-year record of 38-19 and earning All-Golden State Athletic Conference honors as a 1993 junior ... Majoring in Business Management ... Enjoys golf and pickleball.
