Biography

THIS YEAR:  Senior NAIA All-American Sven Simon returns to lead the Azusa Pacific attack after sharing the team’s scoring lead with fellow All-GSAC forward Steven Lenhart … Is a big, athletic and technical player … Has a strong chemistry with Lenhart at the top … Is always a threat to score but is just as eager to set up quality scoring chances for his teammates … Ranks 12th on Azusa Pacific’s career scoring list with 68 points. 

2006:  Named NAIA All-American third team after leading Azusa Pacific in points with 35 and sharing the team lead in goals with 13 … Earned his second straight All-GSAC selection … Scored 2 goals and assisted another in 4 NAIA Tournament games, earning All-Tournament recognition … Scored the Cougars’ lone goal in a 1-1 NAIA Tournament-opening draw with Lee (Tenn.) … Assisted the first goal and scored what turned out to be the game-winner in a 3-1 win over Northwood (Fla.) in the NAIA quarterfinals … Made both of his penalty kicks in tournament-record 10-round shootouts against Lee and in the NAIA title game against Graceland (Iowa) … Started the season with a bang, registering 8 goals and 4 assists in the first 7 games.  

2005:  Made an immediate impact finishing the year with 11 goals and 11 assists, earning All-GSAC recognition … Also named NAIA All-Tournament … Finished third on the team in goals and second in assists … Had 4 game-winning goals which was second on the team … Scored goals in each of the first 2 games in which he played setting the tone for a big offensive year … Scored twice in a win over San Diego Christian … Scored the Cougars’ first goals in NAIA Tournament wins over Graceland (Iowa) and Hastings (Neb.).  

BIRMINGHAM SOUTHERN:  Played 1 season at NCAA Division I Birmingham Southern of the Big South Conference … Proved to be a key cog in the Panthers’ offensive attack … Started 17 of the 18 games he played as a 2003 freshman … Was third on the team with 19 points … Had 6 goals and 7 assists … Was second on the team with 3 game-winning goals and led the team in scoring in Big South Conference play (13 points) … Was named to the 2003 Big South All-Tournament team … Had 6 points with 2 goals and 2 assists in a 7-1 win over High Point … Scored the game-winning goal in a 4-3 win over VMI … Was a teammate of 2 MLS draft picks, Jamie Holmes (New England Revolution) and Karim Deitz (Chicago Fire). 

PERSONAL:  Born Sept. 20, 1983, to Klaus and Maria Simon … Has 1 younger sister (Janine) … Completed his bachelor’s degree in December 2006 and is progressing through Azusa Pacific’s graduate-level MBA program … Enjoys music, business, and learning different languages.
