Biography

THIS YEAR:  A veteran of the GSAC, senior GK Morgan Cathey will look to stake his claim as one of the top keepers in program history … Ranks among the GSAC leaders in career GAA … Has a 1.11 career goals against average (GAA) which ranks him in the top-10 in program history … Is very athletic with an ability to make impressive saves … Has high energy and is very vocal … Is a polished goalkeeper … Has good technical ability and is mature beyond his years. 

2004:  Appeared in 13 games making 12 starts … Made 53 saves … Surrendered 17 goals in 1187 minutes of play for a 1.29 GAA … Had a pair of shutouts … Recorded 6 saves in a 3-0 shutout win over Fresno Pacific … Also blanked Cornerstone (Mich.) 3-0 … Was in net for all 98 minutes of the Cougars’ 2-1 overtime win over Concordia. 

2003:  Was in net for 10 games, making 9 starts while splitting time with newcomer Julian Cottrell … Was second in the GSAC for the second straight year with a 0.99 goals against average (GAA) … Surrendered just 9 goals in 818 minutes of action … Made 43 saves and had 1 shutout, a 2-0 win over NAIA-member Westminster (Utah) … Was in net for all 98 minutes of the Cougars’ 2-1 overtime win over Concordia (Ore.). 

2002:  Appeared in 16 games as a true freshman, starting all of them … Was second in the GSAC with a 1.02 GAA and tied for the conference lead with 6 shutouts … Allowed just 16 goals and made 58 saves … Compiled a 7-3-5 mark … Became the first keeper in school history to record 3 straight shutouts to start a season after whitewashing Palm Beach Atlantic (Fla.), Chapman and Walsh (Ohio) … Posted back-to-back shutouts of Hope International (Oct. 16) and Point Loma Nazarene (Oct. 19) … Allowed just 5 goals in his final 8 games of the season, posting a 4-0-3 mark.

HIGH SCHOOL:  Played 2 varsity seasons at La Costa Canyon High in Carlsbad, Calif. … Named second team All-Avocado League as a 2002 senior, recording 5 shutouts in 19 games as the Mavericks finished 7-8-4 overall … Named Union-Tribune Athlete of the Week when he posted back-to-back shutouts vs. El Camino and Carlsbad (15 saves).

PERSONAL:  Born June 12, 1984, to Mally and Marianne Cathey in Alameda, Calif. … Has 2 brothers (Matthew and Donovan) and 1 sister (Meaghan) … Majoring in youth ministry … Enjoys surfing, snowboarding and golf
