Biography

THIS YEAR: Perhaps the biggest surprise of 2001, junior forward Michael Dwinell is coming off a breakout season in which he played a key part in the Cougar attack … Makes up for his small frame with exceptional speed and ball control … Has a knack for finding the back of the net … Puts good velocity on his shots.

2001: Had a terrific season, doubling the output from his freshman campaign by scoring 4 goals and registering 1 assist for 9 points … Appeared in 18 games, starting 11 … Put the Cougars’ on the board just 61 seconds into the contest of a 2-1 win over The Master’s College in the NAIA Region II semifinals in Santa Clarita (Nov. 3) … Started the season strong scoring goals in the Cougars’ first 2 games vs. Cal Poly Pomona (Aug. 27) and Alliant International (Aug. 31) … Salvaged a tie with the eventual NAIA Region II champion Alliant with a header in the 84th minute in the Cougar Classic … Also assisted on the Cougars’ game-winning goal (Jones) in the 77th minute of the Cougars’ 2-1 win over Chapman.

2000: Tallied 6 points and appeared in all 20 games of his freshman campaign ... Scored his first collegiate goal in a 5-0 victory over CS Hayward ... Registered a goal and 2 assists in GSAC games.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played 4 seasons at Lassen High School in Susanville, Calif., for Matti Ripatti ... A 2-time West Side League MVP, led the Grizzlies to 3 CIF Northern Section championships in 4 years ... Also named All-West Side League as a 1998 sophomore.

PERSONAL: Born April 7, 1982, in San Bernardino, Calif. … Is 1 of 4 children ... Named to Lassen High’s Principal’s High Honor Roll ... Majoring in applied health … Would like to be a physician’s assistant … Enjoys drawing and ceramics.
