Biography

1995:  Sophomore forward Matt Johnston had one of the finest seasons ever by a Cougar freshman and now emerges as one of the top players in the GSAC .... Teams with Jalayer and Barrientos to give the Cougars a terrific frontline, perhaps the best in school history.  Has an excellent shot and good ball handling skills.

1994 (freshman):  Won All-GSAC first team and NAIA All-America honorable mention after scoring a team-high 12 goals (on just 30 shots) and 26 points ... Started just 12 of the 21 games played ... Scored a hat-trick in the Cougars' 4-2 victory over Cal Baptist ... Tallied a pair of goals and assisted on the game-winner in Azusa Pacific's thrilling 4-3 OT victory at Biola.

HIGH SCHOOL:  Prepped at Chino (Calif.) High where he lettered 3 years in soccer and another in football (placekicker) ... Was a 2-time All-Baseline League first team pick in soccer ... Had 18 goals and 9 assists as a 1994 senior ... Named All-CIF Division I.

PERSONAL:  Born May 24, 1976, in Anaheim, Calif. ... His club soccer team won the 1994 California state championship ... Psychology major with a business minor.
