THIS YEAR:  Junior midfielder Kris Van Houten will be in the mix for playing time after showing dynamic flashes last season … Serves the ball well into the middle of the field … Has good pace and can run with anybody. 

2004: Played in a total of 20 games … Made 12 starts in the midfield … Totaled 8 points … Scored 3 goals and had 2 assists … Had a season-high 2 goals in the Cougars’ season opening 3-1 win over Holy Names … Recorded 4 points over a 4-game stretch against Thomas (Ga.), Concordia (Ore.), Pacific Lutheran, and Pomona-Pitzer … Scored his second goal of the year against Pomona-Pitzer … Took a total of 17 shots. 

GEORGE FOX:  Appeared in all 19 games, starting 18, for George Fox in Newberg, Ore. … Led the 5-12-2 Bruins with 21 points, scoring 5 goals and assisting on 9 others as a freshman … Named All-Northwest Conference honorable mention … Ranked third in the conference in assists and sixth in points … Scored a pair of goals in a 4-3 win over Whitman (Wash.) … Was 3-for-3 on penalty kicks … Named NWC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring 2 goals and an assist in a 7-0 win over Northwest (Wash.). 

HIGH SCHOOL:  Played 2 varsity seasons at Jesuit High in Portland, Ore., for head coach Dave Nicholas, graduating in 2003 … Led the Crusaders to a pair of state and Metro League championships. 

PERSONAL:  Born Feb. 5, 1985, in Portland, Ore., to Peter and Kay Van Houten … Has one brother (Matt) and one sister (Andi) … His father, Peter, played collegiately at NAIA-member Concordia (Ore.) … Majoring in Christian ministries with a minor in urban and youth ministry … Would like to become the pastor of the Dreamcenter in Portland
